EUTOPIA Joins the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance: Advancing Global Collaboration

Together with other institutions, EUTOPIA officially joined the EU Science Diplomacy on December 9th, 2024, an association dedicated to enhancing collaboration between science and international relations. Established in 2011, the Alliance builds on the achievements of three Horizon 20220 projects: S4D4Cn InsSciDE, an EL-CSID.

This collaborative network aims to sustain momentum in the rapidly evolving field of science diplomacy. Its mission is to foster project partnerships, facilitate information exchange, and strengthen training and institutional capacity. The Alliance seeks to connect scientists, diplomats, and policymakers in addressing global challenges through cooperative research and innovative dialogue. 

The work of the EU Science Diplomacy Alliance is organised into six themes. 

1. Science Advice & Anticipation Diplomacy focuses on long-term strategic planning to anticipate future challenges and translate scientific knowledge into practical tools for evidence-based policymaking.
2. STI Diplomacy & Gender Equality promotes international collaboration, addresses global challenges, and integrates gender equality, highlighting the impact of emerging technologies like AI on geopolitics and policymaking. 
3. European Research Diasporas facilitates grassroots science diplomacy through research diasporas, enhancing collaboration, mobility and international relations via civil society networks.
4. Ocean Science Diplomacy strengthens the EU's role in ocean governance and sustainability (SDG 14) by fostering collaboration between ocean scientists and policymakers.
5. Global North-South Equity seeks to balance scientific collaboration between the North and South through equitable partnerships and co-developed strategies. 
6. Research Security addresses safeguarding critical knowledge while maintaining open research, balancing security measures with academic freedom and collaboration.

EUTOPIA's inclusion in the Science Diplomacy Alliance highlights our commitment to the field. EUTOPIA has developed since 2023 a series of seminars and debates on science diplomacy, aiming to incorporate the field one day into the academic curricula of our universities. This partnership brings fresh perspectives and dynamic collaborations to the forefront.

EUTOPIA's addition to the Alliance opens new avenues to address shared challenges and drive knowledge creation in an increasingly interconnected world.
