University of Warwick to host Sustainability Training Academy in Venice

The University of Warwick’s Institute of Global Sustainable Development will be hosting their recognised sustainability research training and networking initiative, the Early Career Researcher (ECR) Sustainability Training Academy (STA). Supported by Warwick’s Sustainability Spotlight and IDD ADA University’s match-funding, the event will take place from 30th March to 5th April 2025 at Warwick’s Conference Centre in Venice.

The initiative will focus on the concept of “just transitions”, which aims to ensure fairness and balance in the shift to sustainable systems. This concept has gained increasing attention internationally, particularly with its emphasis on justice and equity in the context of climate action. The STA will critically examine the complexities surrounding just transitions spanning diverse sectors such as water, food systems, energy, and more.

The program will aim to equip the next generation of researchers and practitioners with the skills and knowledge needed to study and implement place-based strategies for achieving just and sustainable transitions.

Those involved will work to develop a wide array of skills, ranging from creative methods to historical and participatory approaches. This will be important to help unravel the complexities of realising just transitions. The event will provide plenty of opportunities for networking and valuable knowledge exchange with participants around the world.
