The Seventh EUTOPIA Week Kick Starts in Lisbon

The bright sunny day and the sea wind welcomed the EUTOPIAn community to the city of Lisbon. The happy summer faces were more than excited to be here in the week of festivities.  The seventh EUTOPIA Week, the first of EUTOPIA MORE kick-started on Monday 19 June 2023, hosted by NOVA University, Lisbon. It’s yet another much-awaited moment for all the colleagues and friends from the partner universities to come together and work towards the brighter tomorrow of the EUTOPIA Alliance. This episode of EUTOPIA Week is led by the motto "For a Better Europe,” and incorporates discussions on the priorities set by the European Commission.

The opening ceremony was adorned by the presence of eminent personalities from both inside and outside the alliance, Ministry of Education, Portugal etc. The President of EUTOPIA and Rector of Ca’Foscari University of Venice, Tiziana Lippiello, delivered the Presidential Address. The Secretary General of EUTOPIA, Mattia Bellotti highlighted the progress the Central Office is making in Brussels in collaboration with Vrije University Brussels. The Round Table on " The Role of European Universities for a Better Future", a discussion led by 17 participants included representation from all EUTOPIA partners and collaborators of NOVA University Lisbon with the audience's participation was a fresh start and one-of-a-kind to start a conversation on looking at the future of Europe's Higher Education.

This EUTOPIA Week is especially important as the alliance is heading to the huge academic opening at the European Parliament in September. Putting the (re)branding of EUTOPIA  as a major focus during this event, the alliance is preparing to be ready to be introduced to the broader outside world. The days to follow have sessions on topics such as the green economy, digital transition, sustainability, tackling inequalities, social justice, European democracy, and so on and so forth.
