Established by the European Union in 2007, the ERC supports ambitious, high-risk projects driven by scientific curiosity across all fields of knowledge. Its four core schemes (Starting, Consolidator, Advanced, and Synergy Grants) are designed to support researchers at all stages of their careers. The Advanced Grants specifically target established research leaders with a proven track record of significant achievements in the last decade.

In total, 2,534 proposals were submitted this round, with just over 11% selected—a testament to the scheme’s competitiveness. The ERC estimates these grants will create around 2,700 new research jobs across Europe.
