EUTOPIA Doctoral Summer School Concludes in NOVA Lisbon

The EUTOPIA Doctoral Summer School conducted at the NOVA University Lisbon concludes with eye-opening insights. Thirty doctoral students from NOVA and various partner universities within the EUTOPIA alliance spent five days at Convento da Arrábida, working on interdisciplinary solutions to address the challenge of longevity. The team with the winning project has secured an opportunity to participate in an upcoming EUTOPIA Alliance activity.

João Amaro de Matos, the Vice-Rector of NOVA University Lisbon responsible for Education and International Development, welcomed the participants and officially opened the 2024 edition of the EUTOPIA Doctoral Summer School, which took place from July 18th to 22nd. Paula Macedo from NOVA Medical School, Bernardo Toninho from NOVA FCT, and Iva Pires from NOVA FCSH led the sessions, and the participants were tasked with developing a project that would utilize the unique skills of each group member to address a specific problem.

The purpose of this course was twofold, according to the organizers. On the one hand, it was to discuss the role of the interdisciplinary approach to modern, complex topics of scientific research. On the other hand, the aim was to provide doctoral students with an out-of-the-box experience that would widen their research horizons by proving the power of interdisciplinary in their specific research fields.

The summer school was indeed an eye-opening experience for the participants, providing them with numerous opportunities to connect with contemporary doctoral scholars from various parts of the world.
