From June 11 to 13, 2025, Sapienza University in Rome hosted CIVIS Days 2025, which brought together academics, students and policymakers from across Europe to discuss this year's theme, "Inclusion and Diversity in Higher Education" . EUTOPIA Secretary-General Mattia Bellotti was a speaker during the plenary opening session.

Over three days, the programme included: student-driven projects, high-impact plenaries, targeted workshops, and practical interactive sessions. Key themes explored throughout the event included:

  • Inclusive universities: Making campuses accessible, diverse, and supportive for all learners.

  • Flexible learning pathways: Micro-credentials, blended and hybrid mobility, and modular programmes that adapt to diverse student needs.

  • Student engagement: Empowering students to co-create curricula, participate in governance, and lead projects.

  • Intercultural communication: Supporting multilingualism and cultural diversity within internationalised campuses.

  • Service learning and civic engagement: Bridging academic knowledge with community impact.

Throughout the event, speakers emphasised the importance of involving students directly in designing courses and assessments. They also showcased how micro-credentials can offer learning pathways, while combining digital and physical mobility options to accommodate diverse student circumstances. These strategies aim to create learning experiences that are both adaptable and meaningful, without compromising on quality or equity.

CIVIS Days demonstrated that university alliances aren’t just pilot projects, they’re engines of systemic change. The ongoing commitment to inclusion, flexibility, and student empowerment is essential for universities aiming to stay competitive and relevant. EUTOPIA and its partners are setting a forward-looking example, making education more dynamic and impactful for the next generation of learners, and for society in general.
