EUTOPIA Delivers its First Ever PhD at VUB

On a milestone event, marking a significant stride in transnational academic collaboration, the European University Network EUTOPIA proudly announces the conferral of its inaugural doctoral degree from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). This landmark achievement underscores the network's commitment to fostering excellence in research and education across European borders.

The recipient of this prestigious accolade, Rebeka Balogh obtained her PhD from the VUB and the British University of Warwick with funding from the European university network EUTOPIA. Rebeka researched the health consequences of precarious jobs. She was supervised by  Professor Christophe Vanroelen, VUB.

Dr. Balogh emphasized the significance of EUTOPIA of cross-border cooperation in advancing scientific inquiry and addressing global issues. Talking about her PhD, she said, "it is a very strong PhD with international stature. We were able to collaborate with excellent scientists from the University of Warwick, which was very stimulating. This is a great first example of a successful EUTOPIA collaboration. And for the VUB and the research of the future, it is an important new way to obtain a PhD. In a way, EUTOPIA saved academic collaborations with the British after the Brexit."

EUTOPIA, comprising ten leading universities from across Europe, has been at the forefront of redefining higher education through innovative approaches to collaboration and knowledge exchange. By leveraging the diverse expertise and resources of its member institutions, EUTOPIA aims to cultivate a dynamic academic environment conducive to groundbreaking research and holistic learning experiences.
