Connected Communities in Action: upcoming CC Science Art & Community exhibition (June 6, 2025)

The Connected Community Science Art and Community is thrilled to announce the opening of the exhibition ‘Interwoven Waters’ at VUB on 6 June 2025.

The Interwoven Waters project combines participatory art, citizen science, and policy engagement to address pressing environmental challenges in the Lake Victoria Basin (LVB), particularly in the Yala River Basin, Kenya. It is led in collaboration with partners such as Women in Water and Natural Resources Conservation (WWANC) and the County Government of Siaya (Kenya), alongside professional artists Camille Wekesa, Liberatha Alibalio, and Sarah Nakisanze.

By integrating creative and scientific methods, the project aims to foster local and regional collaboration on Nature-based Solutions (NbS), water resource management, and environmental conservation, emphasising the roles of women and youth.

The project employs a multidisciplinary methodology, including participatory art workshops and stakeholder engagement, which are designed to enhance community awareness, collect environmental data, and inform policy discussions. Participant interviews, visual documentation, and group discussions will evaluate the emotional and behavioural impacts of these activities, exploring how creative and participatory processes and local knowledge influence environmental stewardship.

The final exhibition at VUB (Pilar) will feature participatory and professional artworks, photographs, and a short film. Researchers, WWANC representatives and artists will present and showcase project outcomes and a short film to promote community-driven conservation efforts.
