Connected Communities in Action: 3rd Multilingualism & Diversity Student Conference

On 10 July 2024, the Multilingualism and Diversity Connected Learning Community held the third edition of its annual student conference.

The conference featured eight students from EUTOPIA partner institutions (CY Cergy Paris University, Vrije Universiteit Brussel, Ca' Foscari University of Venice and Stellenbosch University). Each presented their research on the ‘Multilingualism and Society’ theme, and all benefited from a thought-provoking keynote by Dr. Jacopo Torregrossa (Goethe-Universität Frankfurt) on multilingual assessment.

Groups of EUTOPIA students participating in the summer course ‘Multilingualism & Diversity’ offered by the University of Warwick also presented their work in progress on Linguistic Landscaping, and Dr Helena Wall (UW) presented the Monash-Warwick MITN project: ‘Towards an Inclusive Library Landscape’. Participants enjoyed the variation in topics and the possibility for speakers to contribute in the language they felt most comfortable in whilst using slides in English for the audience to be still able to follow.

The event was a success; overall, 57 students and staff from the alliance and beyond joined online. We look forward to the next edition in 2025!
