Building a Stronger Europe: EUTOPIA Universities Renew Their Pledge to European Unity on Europe Day
The ten EUTOPIA Alliance universities unite to celebrate Europe Day and reaffirm their dedication to designing together the future of Higher Education and Research in Europe.
The Babeș-Bolyai University (Romania), the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (Belgium), the Ca'Foscari University of Venice (Italy), CY Cergy Paris Université (France), the Technische Universität Dresden (Germany), the University of Gothenburg (Sweden), the University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), the NOVA University Lisbon (Portugal), the Pompeu Fabra University-Barcelona (Spain) and the University of Warwick (United Kingdom) are proud to join the rest of Europe in celebrating Europe Day. This particular day commemorates the anniversary of the Schuman Declaration, which proposed a new layout of political partnership in Europe, eventually leading to what is now the European Union.
EUTOPIA strongly believes that universities are where ideas are born and transformed, paving the way for future generations of thinkers and innovators who will contribute to shaping the future of Europe. Through our universities, we connect local, European, and global communities, empowering future generations with the knowledge required to shape a more open, inclusive, and sustainable society. Together we are committed to upholding the values of democracy, respect for human rights, and the rule of law. We are also committed to green and digital transitions: through our teaching, research, and close cooperation with society, we generate technologies and practices that will contribute to a sustainable future for the planet. Science Diplomacy is, for us, one of the keys to fostering international understanding across borders, cultures, and languages. We thus provide a platform for dialogue and exchange.
On this 9 May 2023, with an ongoing war at our frontiers, the ten EUTOPIA universities restate their allegiance to European unity as a critical enabler for an open, inclusive and sustainable society.
