Connected Communities in Action: ‘Marco Polo and the Silk Roads’ Autumn School in Venice

From 30 September to 4 October 2024, 21 researchers and postgraduate students from the University of Warwick, NOVA Lisbon University, the University of Ljubljana, and associated partners from Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China), Jawaharlal Nehru University (India), Temirbek Zhurgenov Kazakh National Academy of Arts (Kazakhstan), and the University of Arts in Belgrade (Serbia) gathered at the Warwick Venice Centre for the interdisciplinary Autumn School ‘Marco Polo and the Silk Roads’, organised by the Connected Community ‘Thinking through the Silk Roads. Cross-Cultural Exchanges & Mobilities’.

Students participated in lectures and seminars, presented their research, and embarked on a curatorial challenge: reimagining the Silk Road through the Venice Biennale pavilions, using diverse mediums like videos, performances, and audio. You can view their projects on the CC dedicated website.

Participants greatly enjoyed the week. One PhD student said: “I thoroughly enjoyed the Autumn School and found it to be a valuable and enriching experience.”

The Connected Community is planning a Summer School in 2025, so stay tuned!
