VUB funding opportunity to accelerate the development of the EUTOPIA Connected Research Community

VUB funding opportunity to accelerate the development of the EUTOPIA Connected Research Community: grants for fundamental research and for applied research/innovation and valorization with at least one of its 9 EUTOPIA Partners.

Academic personal members (ZAP) affiliated to VUB can apply for outgoing and incoming international mobility grants and preparation of EU applications with one or several of its EUTOPIA partners, i.e. CY Cergy Paris Université (France), University of Gothenburg (Sweden), University of Ljubljana (Slovenia), Pompeu Fabra University - Barcelona (Spain), University of Warwick (United Kingdom), Babes-Bolyai University (Romania), Ca'Foscari University of Venice (Italy), NOVA University Lisbon (Portugal), Technische Universität Dresden (Germany).

This is a continuously open call with 4 evaluation moments per year until budget exhaustion. Typical duration 1-3 months mobility.

Objectives:
  • Fundamental research: the temporary mobility should lead to ambitious concrete contributions to the development of a connected research community, including but not limited to submission and acquisition of joint European project proposals with a focus on the first pillar of Horizon Europe “excellent science” (e.g. Marie Curie MSCA actions, ERC Synergy), submission of other joint research projects (e.g. EUTOPIA SIF fellowship, FWO WEAVE, Tournesol or other bilateral/collaborative calls for fundamental research), setting up pilot projects with a pronounced scientific character, joint presentations (poster or oral) to congresses and conferences under EUTOPIA denominator, exchange of specific research techniques, sharing of expertise and training (e.g. MSCA coaching, …)
  • Applied research: the temporary mobility should lead to the submission and acquisition of joint European project proposals with a focus on the second and third Pillars of Horizon Europe "Global Challenges and European Industrial Competitiveness" and "Innovative Europe". Because this concerns Applied research with a valorization finality, requiring projects at a higher TRL level, support is provided for a VUB coordinator who has already gathered a consortium in preparation of an application OR a VUB partner who can add another EUTOPIA partner to a consortium preparing an application. In both cases, the VUB promoter must have been previously successful in obtaining EU funding. The funds that is applied for should effectively be seen as an incentive to include a EUTOPIA partner in a consortium in preparation.
