EUTOPIA’s approach to micro-credentials

On Monday the 7th of February 2022, EUTOPIA, alongside Rectors/Presidents of several other European universities alliances, participated in an important roundtable event on a European approach to Micro-credentials with Commissioner Gabriel and moderated by DG Christophidou (DG EAC).

Jan Danckaert, Vice-Rector for Education and Students at the Vrije Universiteit Brussels and EUTOPIA Lead for Education & Students, highlighted the value and fit that EUTOPIA’s educational model (format and content) presented for adopting micro-credentials, as it allows us to recognize the participation of students in diverse types of short intensive, cross-campus connected learning activities.

Emphasizing EUTOPIA’s commitment to the principles of openness and inclusion, he also explained that the educational model works not only for conventional degree-seeking students registered in the Ba/Ma/PhD cycle in any of our universities, but may also be attractive for LLL.

Furthermore, he shared the news regarding the recently launched Erasmus+ KA2 FLECSLAB project coordinated by the U. of Ljubljana. Standing for Flexible Learning Communities Supporting Lifelong Learning Across Borders, the project which will aim to explore the potential of EUTOPIA Connected Learning Communities as testbeds for an inclusive and flexible approach to lifelong learning was also seen to be in line with the day’s roundtable discussions.
