Research Project:

The aim of this project is to explore how civic engagement can be approached by examining how cultural and artistic spaces are used for political expression. More precisely, I will focus on how cultural diversity and intercultural dialogue are promoted in European urban border areas by medium-scale artistic projects. Furthermore, the promotion of territories and intercultural societal inclusion goes hand in hand with discourses of ecological preservation and sustainable development: there can’t be true actions towards social inclusion and welfare without addressing matters of sustainability. I intend to investigate if a common European identity can be found through the promotion of a shared territory that unites and divides, a place marked by a common troubled history and a shared natural, material and immaterial heritage.
