Research Project:

SPIRAL: Cross cultural study on Sustainability Management practices of Spiritual Landscapes

SPIRAL recognizes that a transdisciplinary and comparative approach is needed to analyse a variety of case studies widespread in different geographical contexts. The project will access databases for cross-cultural research (HRAF, D-Place). Through an ad hoc training on data modelling, it will compare already collected data (Senegal) with those coming from further case studies. Drawing upon results of PhD, the evaluative model will be enhanced by incorporating quantitative data analysis of published literature. The analysis will assess various aspects, including the impacts of cultural changes on socio ecological systems. The modelling and participative action research activities aim to generate new paradigms for biodiversity conservation based on a comprehensive approach integrating Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) and Scientific Ecological knowledge (SEK) on cultural landscapes and forest management practices.
