This community offers participatory learning opportunities at various study levels in Artificial Intelligence, that transcend borders by combining the expertise of specialists in different countries, in activities and curricula that promote active international collaboration between students. The Learning community covers a range of activities:
- Game-playing competition: student teams from within EUTOPIA build an AI system that is capable of playing a video game, using a shared infrastructure.
- Development of a EUTOPIA-wide “Capita Selecta/ Advanced Topics in Big Data AI” module, at Masters/ early doctoral level. This activity contributes to the delivery of international AI education, but also aims to develop a framework that might be deployed in other LCs, to overcome local variations in assessment requirements, credit assignment, etc.
- Development of a jointly delivered EUTOPIA-wide “Introduction to AI module”.

EUTOPIA PACMAN Capture The Flag Tournament
- Date: December 2022
- Location: online
- Host: The tournament was organized by UPF (Barcelona) and hosted on their HDTIC cluster.
- Activity description: In December 2022, UPF and UL organized the pilot edition of the PACMAN Capture The Flag Tournament. This cross-campus competition was set up by UPF and was integrated in the UPF and UL Bachelor courses on AI. The activity consisted of a multiplayer capture-the-flag variant of Pacman (designed by the University of Berkeley, US), where agents control both Pacman and ghosts in coordinated team-based strategies. Students from both EUTOPIA universities teamed up and competed through their self-designed agents, which they programmed with AI techniques that they have studied in their respective courses. In total, 33 teams participated to the competition (2 or 3 students per team). The results can be found on http://pacman-contest.upf.edu/.
