On 27 March 2026, the Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB) welcomed a high-level delegation from the University of Warwick for a visit aimed at deepening institutional cooperation and reinforcing their shared engagement within the EUTOPIA Alliance. The visit brought together senior leadership from both universities, including Warwick Vice-Chancellor Stuart Croft and VUB Rector Jan Danckaert, for a series of discussions on institutional priorities, common challenges, and the future trajectory of EUTOPIA. A joint plenary session highlighted the alignment of both universities’ strategic visions and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening collaboration in education, research, and societal impact.
Beyond the formal meetings, the visit also provided an opportunity to deepen personal exchanges. During the one-on-one sessions between leadership teams, participants visited the VUB fermentation lab, where they explored the science behind fermentation processes in beer, chocolate, and sourdough bread production. The experience, which culminated in a tasting session, offered a gleaming illustration of VUB’s research and innovation ecosystem, whilst simultaneously providing a space for informal dialogue.
Overall, the visit underscored the strength of the Warwick–VUB partnership and its role within EUTOPIA as a platform for international academic collaboration and institutional diplomacy.
