Impact School 2024

The second EUTOPIA Impact School, organized by the Graduate Academy of TU Dresden, took place from September 9 to 13, 2024.

Thirty early career researchers from all ten EUTOPIA partner universities participated and received an exclusive training program on science communication.

In the inspiring surroundings of the historic conference villa of the Evangelische Bildungsstätte on Schwanenwerder (near Berlin), the participants received input on various areas of science communication. Under professional guidance, they worked purposefully on their scientific texts and created a press release about their research projects. In addition, the participants were able to gain their first camera experience in an interview and media training and try out a variety of practical skills.

In intensive pitch training, the participants also learned how to present their research topics clearly and precisely, even beyond their specialist community. Finally, all participants presented their powerful pitches to the group.

The program was rounded off with joint networking evenings, team challenges, and an inspiring lecture by biotechnologist and science slammer Lisa Budzinski.

It was an exciting week and a successful event, as our participants emphasized:

  • "I loved the program! Very well organized, great job of integrating creative and innovative techniques, really useful hands-on workshop of excellent quality.“
  • "Informative, practical, useful. I wish I had done it before!“
  • "I learned so much, especially at the pitch and camera training. Thank you!“

We are delighted to note that the participants are already successfully putting their acquired knowledge into practice and would like to take this opportunity to refer to a recent press release by Dr. Felix Biertümpfel (Chair of Flight Mechanics and Control).
