Júlia Seixas is Pro-Rector of NOVA University Lisbon, coordinating the area of sustainability since novenber 2021. She is Full Professor at NOVA School of Science and Technology, where she served as president of the Dep. Environmental Sci. & Engineering (2017- 2022) and is a member of the ethics committee. She is a Fellow of the Portuguese Engineering Academy since 2018. Her scientific research area focuses on energy transition and climate mitigation and resilience, leading the Energy & Climate group at CENSE research center (2008-2021). From 2016 to 2021, she coordinated the Climate-KIC Hub Portugal and led educational programs including the Journey Summer School, Pioneers into Practice, and the Climate Innovation Leadership program. She coordinates the PhD Program in Climate Change and Sustainable Development Policies, a joint program between NOVA University Lisbon and University of Lisbon since September 2024. She is an independent expert on the National Monitoring Committee of the Portuguese government’s Recovery and Resilience Program since 2021. She is often invited by the Portuguese governments for more than 25y to coordinate studies to support public policies on climate action, resulting in more than a dozen of legislative pieces and two vision documents, including the Long-Term Strategy for carbon neutrality of the Portuguese economy by 2050, submitted to UNFCCC. As a contributing scientist to IPCC, she received recognition under the Nobel Peace Prize from The Nobel Foundation in 2007. She is passionate on mentoring young people towards climate and sustainability action.
