Abi has an undergraduate degree in Applied Physiology and Pharmacology from the University of the West of England, Bristol. She completed a Master’s degree in Health Services and Public Health Research at the University of Aberdeen. She later obtained a PhD in Epidemiology from the University of Aberdeen, funded by the Medical Research Council. She co-leads the Inequalities theme, patient and public involvement and engagement theme, and equality, diversity, and inclusion in the NIHR Policy Research Unit in Reproductive Health. She is the academic lead for the evidence synthesis team at NIHR Health Determinants Research Collaboration (HDRC), Coventry. She is a member of National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Applied Research Collaboration West Midlands and the NIHR School for Public Health Research. She also co-leads the West Midlands Knowledge and Action Partnership for Race Equity, a university-community partnership that seeks to foster mutual learning, research, and community development.
