The graduation ceremony for the second cohort of ECOTOPIA took place on September 4th, at ESCI-UPF (Escola Superior de Comerc Internacional of the University of Pompeu Fabra) in Barcelona. ECOTOPIA is a bachelor’s degree program jointly developed by eight universities belonging to the EUTOPIA alliance. After three years of study, the students have completed an international academic experience that combines studies across different campuses with teamwork in groups made up of students from several countries.

ECOTOPIA focuses on economics, management, finance and business, with sustainability as one of its key pillars. Throughout the program, students have broadened their international experience through a range of activities, including the Summer Schools in Ljubljana and Rabat, focused respectively on building a community among students and on innovation and entrepreneurship in Africa. Upon completing their studies, graduates have received a European certification alongside their bachelor’s degree, as well as the opportunity to become part of a Europe-wide professional network.

The graduation ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate the end of this stage and highlight the students’ journey. The event began with a speech by Josep Ibáñez, UPF’s EUTOPIA Commissioner, and continued with a keynote lecture by Santiago García Milà, former Vice-President of the Port of Barcelona, entitled Developing Innovative Solutions in the Blue Economy Framework: The Blue Tech Port. The ceremony concluded with a farewell speech by Albert Carreras, Director of ESCI-UPF.

The celebration also brought together representatives from the universities involved in ECOTOPIA, including Babeș-Bolyai University, Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and CY Cergy Paris University, as well as the students of the second cohort.
